2022 Edition of TMS 402/602 Now Available
TMS 402/602-22 Released
Following a six-year development schedule, The Masonry Society has completed and published the 2022 edition of TMS 402/602 Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures.
The new 2022 edition has been updated throughout to allow the use of new materials and methods including:
- More options for anchored and adhered veneer
- New Appendix D on composite reinforcement in masonry
- Compression-controlled sections were added for strength design
- Revised and refined provisions throughout, including referencing current ASTM Standards and design resources

During this five-part Night School webinar series, masonry experts and Committee leaders will review the new standards and changes made since the 2016 edition. These standards will form the basis for masonry design provisions in the 2024 International Building Code and other model building codes and include some major new provisions that include a new appendix on masonry partition walls reinforced with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) reinforcement, completely revised anchored and adhered veneer provisions, and enhancements throughout the standards.

Online Subscription Access
The Masonry Society (TMS) and HighWire announce a development partnership on a web-based version of two TMS Standards [TMS 402 (Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures) and TMS 602 (Specification for Masonry Structures)]. This platform will enable subscribers to access the document’s provisions easily with significant added content such as commentary, design examples, references, and more. When complete, the system will be integrated into TMS’s existing website. Options to offer multiple “seats” will be available to firms and classes. In general terms, this project will develop an online platform similar to ASCE 7 Online and other hosted content platforms being developed by many standards organizations.
Over the next few months, TMS and HighWire will develop the site for the 2016 and 2022 editions of the TMS 402/602 standards. Additional content including past editions of these standards and possible other TMS standards is being considered. After testing, TMS and HighWire are targeting release in early 2023.
